2016 is set to be the year of digital, clean packaging and the return of green as consumers continue to demand more in exchange for brand loyalty.
At least these are the predictions of packaging analysts and if they turn out to be correct this will certainly have implications for all areas of packaging.
The evolution in digital printing is set to gather pace as brands will seek to reach and engage with their customers on a more personal level than ever before. While digital package printing has largely been used for special additions in the past it is likely to become more mainstream in 2016.
This year will also see the demand for more transparency in packaging increase with consumers wanting to know more about the products they are purchasing. This will require clear labelling and less confusing clutter on packaging.
Green packaging has been slow to evolve but this is set to change in 2016 with competition between brands leading to a new battle front opening up over which products have the more eco-friendly packaging.
Also expect further innovations in the use of mobile phone technology with mobile-engaged packaging. This ties in with attempts to engage with customers on a more personal level.
